PA Prayer Alert

Dear Friends,

Recently, Kerry attended a conference in S Korea’s famed Prayer Mountain with 6600 other women, called by a Korean Pastor and Mrs Vonette Bright (co-founder of Campus Crusade for Christ) to pray for the world.  She obviously met some wonderful women and had amazing times in prayer.  However, she, and friend Anna Peachey, were impressed with a number of things:

1.      The passion of the Korean’s prayer lives.  They prayed so loud it was hard on the ears and they could keep up the intensity for a long time.

2.      The Koreans desire to take every aspect of their society.  Seoul’s Yoido Full Gospel Church, pastored by David Yonggi Cho, publishes the fourth largest newspaper in the nation, administers a benevolent ministry supported by the government, and has founded a university and ministry training school.  Their prayers are having a huge impact upon the entire nation.  Seoul has 8 of the 10 largest churches in the world including Yoido with its 800,000 members (I did not make a mistake in the number).  Yoido has 7 Sunday services filling their 12,000 seat sanctuary every time.  They have nearly 50,000 cell groups to care for their large membership.  All of this emerges from their amazing prayer ministry.  Half nights of prayer every night but Friday when they pray all night as well as people taking vacation to go to prayer mountain to fast and pray.

Let us pray that God would do a work in the fervency of our own pray lives so that we can impact our cities and our nation.

TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THE SEASON

When I was a pastor, I always looked at this time of the year as the beginning of the year.  Our year seems to ebb and flow with the end of the vacation season and the beginning of school and college.  I looked at this time as start up time.  This means that many opportunities exist for effective ministry:

  1. Our children will be salt and light in their schools.  Many in the Politically Correct Camp feel that Church and State should be and have been effectively separated. However, every time a Christian student, teacher or administrator walks onto school property, the presence of God comes with them.  In addition, our students have the opportunity to tell their friends what is going on in their life and to invite them to church activities.  Our schools are a mission field waiting to be taken.
  2. Parents have the opportunity to connect with other parents through their children and their activities.  Back to school nights and other school activities provide a very relaxed atmosphere to build relationships.  Ask God to give you strong connections with those He desires you to minister to.
  3. Fall is a time when our unsaved friends, relatives and co workers will be most open to getting involved in activities such as a small group or a parenting class.  This is a great time to develop relevant ministries designed to capture the eye of those needing Jesus.
  4. This time of year also has some wonderful benefit from a prayer point of view. As folk are looking to set in to a “normal” routine, they will be open to becoming part of an intercessory prayer group.  September and October are great times to begin intercessory prayer groups.  Take advantage of the momentum and do not become discouraged that some may not keep coming over the long haul. If two or three of you gather, God will do great things.  You may even start a group that will only meet for a specified period of time. Our state and national elections in November provide an excellent opportunity for a short term group.

PRAYER NEEDS

1.      Pray for President Bush as he interacts in many crucial domestic and international issues.

2.      Pray that God will order world events in such a way that His Kingdom agenda will go forth with the greatest impact.  (Because we travel more, we have become aware of how international events can impact travel and missions.  Only God knows what will be best to advance His agenda).

3.      Pray for the mid term elections coming up in November.  Pray that God would sovereignly oversee elections so that His choice of candidates will win office.

4.      Pray that the church will come together in unprecedented ways for prayer and unified strategic ministry.

5.      Pray for Christian students, teachers, parents and administrators to have a great impact upon the schools and those who attend the schools.

6.      Pray that God would use Christian Schools and HomeSchooling to raise champions who will advance the Kingdom.

7.      Pray for Christians in the Marketplace to impact those around them. Let’s pray for opportunities to witness, for prayer groups and Bible studies to begin.  Perhaps God would even raise up mid week churches meeting in some business locations.

May God bless and use each of you.
